Review of A Dire Situation
“A Dire Situation” by KC Knight is non-fiction. The bodies of Elaine and Letisha were found with similar markings. Laura hires Kat, a detective and investigator, to find out the perpetrators behind these mysterious deaths.
These criminals, upon discovering Kat knows too much, kidnap her and drug her. Then Trevor, one of them, rapes her. The order of events is narrated in the first-person singular. I like the way the author links the happenings of the past to the present. There’s an insight into the characters' lives, especially those of the rapists, including the motivation behind their cruel acts. I equally enjoy the book's conversational tone.
Chapter two begins with Trevor narrating the story of his life from his own perspective. Afterwards, other characters come in with their own narrative points of view. Sergio, Trevor, and Chuck recount unjustifiable reasons that led them to beat, rape, and hack up their victims without remorse. Trevor is raised to believe he's a god and an elite man who can have as many women as he wants. Sergio, on the other hand, kills his mom and her lover with a bat. Chuck Logan experienced molestation from his mother at a young age.
Laura is kidnapped the second time and calls Kat to come save her. Did she make it to the cabin? Was Kat able to save Laura from the hands of death? How did they escape? Were the perpetrators brought to justice? Grab a copy to find out.
I noticed something I didn’t like in the book. With the introduction of another character in each chapter, it was difficult to figure out who was narrating at first. For example, when one of the rapists, Chuck, was narrating, he was making beef vegetable stew. At first, I thought it was Kat talking.
For this reason, I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars. I didn’t find any errors in the book, and I recommend it to people who enjoy reading books on mystery, crime scenes, and adventure.
