Review of Mayflies

In a village, the skeletons of a woman and a child have been discovered around a school built on one of the lands owned by a wealthy family, prompting a police investigation. Luke Carlyle, one of the heirs to the family, plans to build property for business on what is now considered a possible crime scene. It is not clear if he is the sole inheritor of his deceased father’s land or has to share it with the other heirs since their father left no will. A young single mother, Ruby, lives around the school where she caters for her two kids and her sick grandmother amidst financial difficulties. When her grandmother heard of the skeletons, her reaction hinted that she might know more about the skeletons than the rest of the village; she passed away before telling Ruby anything meaningful about the skeletons. Ruby and Alice, a teacher from the school near the discovered skeletons, fall in love with Luke, who is in a relationship with his girlfriend from the city, Bella. This story is riveting, full of suspense, and has a good set of fully developed characters. Many of the characters in this story are relatable. For example, Ruby represents a resilient and independent woman who looks after her family despite a lack of a good job. Luke is a charming and ambitious man whose love for money and women makes him make wrong decisions. The plot of this story is adequately paced and complex, with many parallel and related stories that keep you guessing how they all fit into each other. As the story evolves, bits of the mystery surrounding the Carlyle family emerge through discovered written notes and poems.
I rate this book five stars out of five. This book is well-edited. I loved the pace of the story, its suspense, and its character development. The plot of the story is elaborate, with many plot twists. There is nothing negative I have to say about this book. There are many instances of profanity in this book, including non-borderline profanities. This book contains a couple of scenes of intercourse, some slightly more detailed than others. There is only one scene of violence in this book where a character has an accident. I recommend this book to readers of all religions and the appropriate age.
