Book Review: "E M P Honeymoon: Kelly and Tom" by Dorothy May Mercer

"EMP Honeymoon" is a fast-paced, suspense-thriller, adventure-filled novel involving characters from the McBride series by Dorothy May Mercer. Having recently read another novel by this author, I was intrigued, but she has successfully created another story that stands on its own, revolving around some known characters. A quick Google search was also done before I began reading to know what an EMP is, which is an electromagnetic pulse.

The story begins with a couple, Kelly and Tom, on their honeymoon when Kelly stumbles upon something suspicious going on in a supposedly shut-down store in town. As she approaches her brother, Senator Mike McBride, with the information, he appoints his security head, Cynthia, to do the needful. What follows is a brilliant tale weaved with different characters, each doing their thing, oblivious to the fact that others are keeping tabs on their activities. We have a story with international government agencies trying to use their military power to render the US incapable of protecting themselves from any impending attack, and American citizens and secret agents trying to foil their plans. The book needs to be read to know how it all happens and ends.

I like how the story is fast-moving and does not dwell much on the technicalities but rather on the action. I admit that the title makes you think that there will be much romance to read, but that is not so. There are some insinuations about sex and romance, but nothing too graphic. I also liked that even though the story is about violence, much of it is not there in writing. There is some profanity, which can be accepted given the characters' positions and stances.

There is nothing to dislike in the book. The book has been edited exceptionally well, as I did not find any errors in the writing. I would give the book five out of five stars for being a thorough suspense-filled story without wavering too much from the plot, and I would recommend it to all adults and young adults who do not mind a bit of everything brought together in a fiction novel.
