Review of The Forest

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Forest" by Miriam Verbeek.]
When Gregory Rowland fell sick again, he asked his daughter, Tania, to step in and manage the family business, Rowland Enterprises. Tania took a look at the books and noticed something off immediately. She contacted Saskia and IFS (International Financial Services) to investigate the business's finances and determine where the discrepancies were coming from. Saskia had to spend a few days in the family house and the office to do her observations.
After only a few days in Timbertown, it becomes apparent that something more is afoot. Underneath the calm, idyllic surface and cheerful demeanor of Timbertown folks, seeds of discontent are growing. At the company, things aren't any better. Is everything as it seems, or has Saskia uncovered a sinister plot?
The Forest by Miriam Verbeek is a book showcasing many businesses' real issues. It shows the results of greed and desperation and how much damage can be done by one little action on one person's part. It can spiral out, affecting many others, until it goes beyond and becomes something we can no longer control.
The central characters in this book are so easy to love and connect to. There is a lot of minority representation in the main character, Saskia. Yet, this is not made to be her whole personality or the book's focus. Other characters, including Suley, Tania, Gregory, Clarissa, Peter, and Trixie, will steal your heart quickly and make you fall even more in love with this book.
I was impressed by Saskia and her manner of investigation. I loved how everything didn't just miraculously fall into place but by asking astute questions and paying attention to things that were not said.
The author has a remarkable ability to capture the reader's attention. Her ability to describe scenes engagingly and arouse curiosity contribute to the factors that make this book difficult to put down. Readers will always be curious to know what will happen next.
The author added a snippet of the previous book. Reading that snippet without wanting to get the full book and read the complete thing would be almost impossible.
I found nothing to dislike about this book, and it was professionally edited. Therefore, I'd rate it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to lovers of thriller stories.
