L. Andrew Cooper's supernatural/horror novel The Middle Reaches tells the tale of five kids who lost their friend Sheldon Vere to an unexplained disappearance. Even though they had all returned to their high school town as adults, they had not spoken or seen one another in ten years. But, as they meet at their ten-year school reunion, they realize they are all experiencing the same terrible reoccurring dream as they talk about their recollections of Sheldon's disappearance. What truly transpired with Sheldon? Will they risk their lives to face their fears and go back to the location for answers? What will they find out? Read the book to learn more.

This narrative opens with a horrifying, incredibly visually striking dream sequence that creeps into the real world with unsettling foreboding. I'm interested in getting to know the characters better, learning what happened to Sheldon, and how people react to the events of the past—or perhaps just what they believe happened—today. The descriptions and phrasing are exquisite. The writing was exceptional. The author maintained the suspense very well till the end. With each chapter, the curiosity to find out what happened increases. The vivid description of the place and the creatures they saw in the dream made me shiver. I have read all eight episodes in one go.

Nick Andrews, Sheldon's closest buddy, never gave up hope that he would track down Sheldon or at least learn what had become of him. This explains the bond and the level of friendship Nick and Sheldon shared.

One thing to remember before reading this book is that it is suitable for a mature audience. It contains graphic violence, explicit sexuality, and profanity that some readers may not find comfortable.

Overall, this book was exactly what I was looking for. It perfectly balanced the supernatural and horror elements. There was never a dull moment while reading this book. Hence, I would give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. There is nothing I disliked about this book. I found this book professionally edited, as I didn't find a single error.

I would recommend this book to mature adults looking for a supernatural thriller with horror elements.
