Name of the book: The Middle Reaches (Episode 1-8)

Author’s name: L. Andrew Cooper

Summary: Authored by L. Andrew Cooper, The Middle Reaches is supposed to be 60 episodes long, which is not completed yet. Releasing this book in parts, the author has tried to make an impact on the audience’s interest. Same as the viewers wait for any series’ episodes to be released, the readers would be waiting for the next episode of the book to be released. The episodes are further clustered in parts that the author classifies as ‘Cycles’. The Middle Reaches has 4 cycles, which are different from each other. For instance, the characters in the first cycle and the second are not the same, but their lives are found intertwined as the reader goes deep into it. The story starts with a group of friends who decide to visit The Middle Reaches after their reunion. It was the same place where one of their friends vanished the last time they went there. It was a dark and mysterious place that drew people towards it. In the second cycle, a different group of people found themselves in The Middle Reaches, and strange things started to happen to them as well. That’s when they cross their path with the group of people from the first cycle. And the puzzle Andrew tried to make starts. Weren’t both the groups alive at different times? Does the Middle Reaches allow time travel? I am not sure. Dive in to see if you’re able to solve the puzzle he made.

I find Andrew’s writing scary, provocative, and mesmerizing. His work holds the capacity to make me think and rethink about a subject he wrote even though the work mentions it as a fantasy. I am sure this is the result of his hard work while studying literature and film at Harvard and Princeton. One of his latest novels, Crazy Time, explores the deep hidden realm of curses from divine deities. The way he unfolds the dark and horror combined with suspense is fascinating.

Positive: Readers can get this book on Kindle easily. It is an interesting read which is worth your time.

Negative: Other than this, I didn’t find anything that could be put into this section of the review.

Rating and Justification: This book just blew my mind, so I would rate this book a fine five out of five. I like the mystery and suspense the book creates.

Recommendation: This book is not fit for children as it has extreme profanity and visual violence. Any adult who isn’t tolerant of violence, profanity, and excessive sexuality should refrain from reading this book. People who are interested in dark fantasy and thrillers filled with mystery should check this book out because it has a lot to offer to the lovers of such kinds of books. Trust me you’d thank me for recommending it and Andrew for writing it. Reading this book will require your attention because though the ‘Cycles’ are different from one another, they are somehow intertwined. If you’re not attentive throughout the book you’d need to go through some parts to understand what’s going on.

Errors: I didn’t find any errors in the book while reading it. The book is edited exceptionally.
