Review of E M P Honeymoon
Name of the book: E M P Honeymoon
Author’s name: Dorothy May Mercer
Summary: The book E M P Honeymoon written by Dorothy May Mercer is a reality-fiction (as the author likes to call it) with a tinge of suspense, thrill and romance. A couple, Kelly and Tom, get on the road to their perfectly planned honeymoon at a Caribbean resort, but nothing goes as they planned. This makes me remember a saying which says ‘Random plans are the best’. They meet a small group of people whose intentions are no good. They unintentionally get along with them to save themselves from harm and unheard secrets unfold in front of them, which leaves them in awe. Then, they start an adventure to save the planet from a disaster. The story moves among the four main groups of characters in the novel.
Dive into the book to know what would happen to America if the terrorists successfully created an electromagnetic pulse and used it to take control of the world.
Positive: I like how the book mentions terrorists but no violence takes place, which is unexpected. When I read the description of the book, reading about terrorists in the book, I was expecting the abduction of the bride or some violence at the scene, which would ruin the couple’s honeymoon. But the author surpassed what I could think of. After reading the book, I found the title of the book quite funny. E M P in the book’s title stands for Electro-Magnetic Pulse, which, when combined with Honeymoon, seems like a very interesting and one-of-a-kind honeymoon.
Negative: Other than this, I didn’t find anything that could be put into this section of the review.
Rating and Justification: I would rate this book an absolute five out of five because I enjoyed reading it a lot. The author took her time to get the readers familiar with the characters of the book thoroughly. It helped me get connected to them and get immersed in the story completely. The start and end of the story gave me an adrenalin surge. I found the story lacking at the same pace as it started in the middle chapters, but the adventure quickly took the pace again. Reading this book felt like playing my favorite video game in certain chapters.
Recommendation: I wouldn’t recommend this book to children below age because they might lack the political knowledge to grasp the context of the book. Though young adults can read this book. The language used in the book is clean and clear, which makes it good for high school students. This book doesn’t have any visual violence and destruction, which makes it fit for a wider audience. The book, being about a couple on honeymoon, has minimal intimate mentions(hugs, kisses) but no erotic or vulgar content.
Errors: I didn’t find any errors in the book while reading it. The book is edited exceptionally.
