Review of E M P Honeymoon
When Kelly made a distress call to her brother, Senator Mike, she never expected her honeymoon would result in a mission to save the lives of innocent Americans. Kelly told Mike that she suspected the lab she had walked into while in West Bay, Honduras, was run by terrorists, as she could not believe what the North American power grid was doing in the middle of nowhere. Mike asked Cynthia, his personal assistant, to investigate Kelly’s suspicions and report to him.
Cynthia sent Agatha and Sharon to protect Kelly and ensure her safe return from her honeymoon. It was while Agatha, Sharon, Kelly and Tom (Kelly’s husband) were checking out a shipping container at the lab premises that they captured Steve, a CIA operative who had also been tasked with watching over Kelly and Tom. The team now had to combine efforts in order to stop the brilliant Colonel Rhee Su-jin from carrying out an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) attack against the United States (US) of America.
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer describes the advanced military weapons and threats that the US faces, which, in this case, failed to anticipate. Dorothy shows how the US may be ignorant of its lines of weakness, whose vulnerability could be devastating in case enemies break through. She labels this book as belonging to the “reality-fiction” genre because it explores all the possibilities of an EMP attack against the most powerful country in the world, especially one with one of the highest military budgets.
Dorothy included subtitles for every chapter to foreground the settings of each scene. This was especially important owing to the parallel activities in the storyline, for instance, where the terrorists were fast-tracking the weapon launch while the US government tried to contain them.
This book is exceptionally edited, as I found no errors in it. There is nothing I liked the least about this novel and I happily award it five out of five stars. It contains military jargon that will expand readers’ knowledge of the advances made in the military field. The communication between key characters also reveals the bureaucracies governing the military chain of command, where soldiers are expected to follow commands irrespective of their moral perspectives.
I recommend this intriguing novel to readers who love novels whose storylines follow international military warfare. Readers interested in learning about new threats to which most superpowers are vulnerable will gain much insight from reading this novel.
