No matter your point of view, bad things are bad. However, there are often valid reasons why individuals do evil things. And as the adage goes, "the person wearing a shoe knows where it hurts." Taking Over My Life: Part 1, written by Lara De Oliveira, explores the challenges faced by Donatello Bianchi, a mafia member, and his family.

Charlotte goes to the chapel built by her father for his funeral, accompanied by Vincenzo, her father's best friend and most trusted bodyguard. She meets with Aurora, Stephano and Andrea, her siblings; she is not happy to see them because they have never visited since the passing of their mother. After the funeral, Charlotte left and instructed Vincenzo to give her space as she made her way to the vines, where a flashback of her father's murder came rushing back to her. She left New York for Italy to assume her father's position as the first female Don, and this is where the journey starts, which you will learn about by reading Taking Over My Life: Part 1.

After reading this book, all I felt was a mix of emotions because the book ended in a way that left me curious. The book appealed to me in various ways, and I liked that the author translated sentences into Italian, as it made my reading experience perfect. I liked that Charlotte's father prepared her forehand for the task ahead, as she seems to know a lot for her age. I was touched by the risks Vincenzo took for Charlotte, such as taking her spiked drink.

The only aspect of this book that annoyed me was Aurora's plans to rescue Charlotte, which seemed to be taking forever and ate up my patience. The above reason does not affect my book rating; it still gets 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to individuals with a mature audience because of the use of profanity and R-rated scenes. I also encountered an error in this book, and this proves professional editing.
