Everywhere That Tommy Goes by Howard K. Pollack is a book that embodies intrigue and suspense.

It featured Tommy Sullivan, a guy who happened to be caught in the wrong place by the wrong people and was getting beat up to within an inch of his life. Out of the blue, he was saved by a guy who introduced himself as Troyer Savage. Troyer carried all the fantastic traits Tommy wished he had. Troyer seemed to be a great friend until a bartender wound up dead, and Tommy was left figuratively holding the gun.

Tommy soon found himself in trouble and couldn't escape it. Everywhere he went, disaster followed until he was buried so deep in the problems that it seemed he could never come out.

I love this book for several reasons. The story flows so naturally that it's easy to forget it is being read from a book. The story is narrated mainly from Tommy's perspective, and the author employs a conversational style that makes it feel like the reader is listening to this story. The reader gets to know Tommy well as they go through the troubles together. When a reader comes across a line like "Then—get this—she pulls his hand away and stops kissing him," it can feel like Tommy is talking directly to them, and they have no choice but to listen. The author's ability to draw the reader in and make them connect with the story is admirable.

The way the author connected the book's different parts was also admirable. The conclusion wasn't rushed, and he allowed the suspense to build. The different parts of the book gradually came together to set the stage for the ending. While we were following Tommy's part of the story, the author added breaks in between where we could see how the investigation was proceeding. We had the detectives in New York, the police force in Seaview, and the police officers in Port Jervis investigating different crimes in all the places where Tommy (and Troyer) had passed through.

There was so much suspense in this book. When one question was answered, ten more would spring up in its place. It would be hard for anybody reading this book to be confident that they had figured out everything because each direction they could go in would lead to more questions than they could answer. There were surprises at every turn; predicting what would happen next was difficult. The way Troyer kept popping up at the most surprising times added to the suspense. The revelations from Tommy's past were shocking, especially the situation with Ellen, the camp counselor. Even till the end of the book, when it looked like things had finally been resolved and everything was okay, the author still had one last bombshell for us. This bombshell would remain in readers' minds and make them review the details again to be sure they had caught everything. It happened to me.

I found nothing to dislike about this book, and it was professionally edited. I was engrossed in the book and found it challenging to put it down until I was done. Therefore, I'd rate Everywhere That Tommy Goes by Howard K. Pollack 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to everybody who enjoys psychological thrillers.

The fact that Tommy is the main focus in the novel with a lot of challenges, that's tough. I hope to read this novel to find out how he was able to deal with his situation.
