Review of E M P Honeymoon
5 0ut of 5 star
Dorothy May Mercer's "E M P Honeymoon us on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride, blending romance, suspense, and a dash of humour in a story that unfolds against the backdrop of a Caribbean paradise. The narrative kicks off with Kelly McBride and Sgt. Tom Turbulo basking in the bliss of their honeymoon when an unexpected encounter thrusts them into a perilous web of international intrigue.
The author masterfully crafts a tale where curiosity trumps caution, setting the stage for a thrilling adventure transcending the idyllic honeymoon setting. The characters, particularly Kelly and Tom, are skillfully developed, with their palpable chemistry adding depth to the unfolding drama. The plot takes an unexpected turn when Kelly stumbles upon a nefarious plot by North Koreans to unleash chaos on North America using an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). This book deserves a 5-star rating. Here is why?
What sets "E M P Honeymoon" apart is its seamless integration of various elements – from the involvement of the US Space Force and a charismatic CIA agent to the McBride security team's daring mission.
Mercer's storytelling prowess shines as she weaves together a complex narrative that encompasses not only the McBride security team but also introduces Colonel Sky Easterman and the newly established Space Force. Including these dynamic elements enhances the overall narrative, adding intrigue and excitement.
One of the standout aspects of the novel is its attention to detail. Mercer seamlessly integrates scientific and procedural elements, providing a realistic and absorbing experience. The plot's intricacies are well-researched, elevating the novel beyond a mere thriller into a thought-provoking exploration of the potential consequences of an EMP attack.
Cynthia, the capable head of the McBride security team, orchestrates a compelling rescue mission, dispatching two of her agents to aid Kelly and Tom. Meanwhile, Colonel Sky Easterman faces the same threat from a different angle, showcasing the author's ability to intertwine multiple perspectives seamlessly.
Despite its gripping plot, "E M P Honeymoon" falls short in character depth, with Kelly and Tom feeling somewhat one-dimensional. The novel occasionally sacrifices realism for dramatic flair, particularly in the involvement of the US Space Force, stretching the boundaries of believability. While generally brisk, the pacing must be more consistent and varied, disrupting the narrative flow. The humour, though present, also occasionally feels forced, diminishing the impact of intense scenes. Some readers may find the international intrigue plotline clichéd, lacking the freshness needed to stand out in the crowded thriller genre. While entertaining, the novel doesn't consistently deliver on its promising premise. But I am ignoring this because of the fabulous story.
The editing of this book is flawless. No errors or typos are found.
In conclusion, "E M P Honeymoon" is a captivating and well-executed thriller that deserves its five-star rating. Mercer's ability to blend romance, action, and humour while maintaining a firm grip on the scientific and procedural aspects is commendable. Seeking an immersive experience filled with twists, turns, and a touch of romance will make this novel an absolute delight.
