E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom by Dorothy May Mercer is part of her McBride series, but you don't need prior knowledge to enjoy the story. It follows Kelly McBride and her husband, Sergeant Tom Turbulo, who are on a honeymoon in Honduras, a Caribbean island. While there, Kelly accidentally makes a shocking discovery. Kelly calls her brother, Mike McBride, for help. As the story progresses, a Korean plot to blow up North America comes to light. The various suspenseful moments and mystery elements made the book fun to read.

This novel is the second book I have read by Dorothy May Mercer. The first book I read from her was Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War. Both books have similar styles of writing and a similar theme. I enjoyed seeing some characters return from the previous book. There is no need to read her previous books, but one's enjoyment is enhanced because you know some of the characters better. Cynthia and Dan focused heavily on romance, whereas this book focuses mainly on conspiracy and drama.

I noticed similarities to some Jack Reacher novels, as Reacher also deals with conspiracies against America. Many scenes are from the perspective of antagonists, which provides depth to the story. The author does not vilify all Koreans, as she inserts a side story of a Korean worker disobeying his orders. This addition makes the book stand out from other works of fiction, where everyone working for the villain is faithful to him.

The writing is pretty simple and easy to understand. The author does not use many fancy words. Instead, she relies on simple language to convey her meaning. I liked this decision because many books use stylish and intricate language, confusing the readers. The book is a page-turner because the story is fast-paced. I finished it in one day. The story includes many events occurring in various locations. The author writes scenes from different perspectives, making the story easy to follow. My only complaint about the writing is that the author does not describe characters and locations. She only mentions their names and moves on with the story, making it hard for the reader to visualize the characters. I would have appreciated it if the author had taken the time to write descriptions of people and places. I found the ending abrupt, but the author provided some extra details after the epilogue, which gave me closure for the story.

The cover of the book accurately displays the main focus of the story. However, the font used for the title does not fit the story. A font similar to Verdana, used for the Mission Impossible movies, would have been better.

I did not find any significant grammatical errors in the text. The editor has done a fine job. The book is a short and enjoyable read. The story is interesting, and I was always at the edge of my seat. After every chapter, I wondered what might happen next. Any negative points I mentioned do not take away from the thrill of the story. Accounting for all the above points, I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Readers who enjoy fast-paced, suspenseful stories will have a good time with this book.
