In Dorothy May Mercer's E M P Honeymoon: Kelly and Tom, the newlyweds Kelly and Tom look forward to a summer of sun-kissed beaches and stress-free days. Instead, they experience their heaven turning into a heart-thumping battlefield when danger strikes.

Mercer doesn't hold back; she straight-threw us right into Kelly's idyllic world and then unceremoniously broke it. Here comes the fast-boiled journey of Kelly and Tom, starting out as lovebirds and ending up as unlikely heroes. The plot isn't mere action sequences; the conspiracy based on a possible EMP blast provides an all-too-realistic backdrop to the story, which makes it so scary. With Kelly and Tom navigating through dangers, you can skip the unsubtle character development. They are not flat characters; they have been swept up in the irresistible current of a crisis that leaves no time for contemplation. However, there is a hint of romance intertwined. It might not be a heartbreaking one full of obstacles, but one that makes them persevere despite all odds—that is, life itself. Additionally, Mercer interjects comic relief, resulting in the realization that even under the worst of circumstances, absurdity will always manage to show its face. The conversation maintains the drama without dwelling on too much jargon, which is too technical.

Mercer's prose style is different from lyrical prose. Its focus is on the action scenes and adventures that always leave you with a lot of adrenalin and an escape from death. My rating for this book is 5 out of 5 stars. I only won't take a star off because the book is edited well. As I read it, there is nothing here that I dislike at all.

If you're looking for a book that lets you forget the real world for a while and sink into a fast-moving, conspiracy-laden plot, then E. M. P Honeymoon: Kelly and Tom bring the goods. This concerns staying away from every long sentence and rather striving to reach the end to know if our unsuspecting twosome can pull this through.
