A Walk Through the Grapes by David Jackson is a mystery novel about a man named Jace Grazer and his family. Being from a small town in the countryside, Jace harbored ambitions of becoming an actor, leading him to leave his family behind to pursue his interests in a bigger city. After failing to achieve his dreams, Jace returns home and confronts his family, friends, and love, all of whom are angry with him. While Jace gives his all convincing his close ones to accept him again, mysterious events start occurring around him. With abrupt deaths and hidden secrets, Jace finds himself in the middle of something where even his family begins to keep secrets from him. The rest of the story unfolds with Jace coming to terms with his mistakes while he tries to make sense of the tangled web of lies and mysteries occurring around him.

What I liked about this book was the writing style. The author made a simple storyline into an intense and emotional thriller novel. Looking back after reading the whole book, I found the story to be not exceptionally unique. Instead, the way it was written sets this book apart and makes it memorable to the reader. The author was very good at conveying the emotions of the characters. Notably, the helplessness that Jace felt in certain situations was well expressed. Rather than stereotypical archetypes, the characters were abundant with flaws and individualities, which made them complete and realistic.

There was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. Other than a few obvious grammatical errors that I found, the book was a pleasant and exciting read.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is a gripping read which doesn’t let you put it down until you finish reading it. I removed a star due to a few grammatical errors found in the book. This book is well suited for young adults and adults due to mature themes about romance, love, and death found throughout it. It is a casual read for those looking for a crime thriller novel with flavors of life and comedy.
