Vera Ochman and her father, Ben Ochman, lived in New York City. Having lost his wife to advanced lung cancer at a very young age, Ben was bound by grief for his beautiful Latin bride. Vera, on the other hand, diverted her grief by enrolling in summer school, where she met Felipe Sanchez, who helped her escape the pathos of her mother’s death.

Felipe Sanchez was the leader of the inner-city biker gang, which was involved in multiple felonies. An undercover operation to apprehend the gang goes awry; as a result, an FBI agent gets shot, and Felipe frames Vera for the murder. But Vera turns the case around by becoming the prosecution’s star witness.

Madam Vice President by Julian Mann is the story of Vera Ochman, aka Victoria Pierce, who inadvertently becomes the Vice President of the United States of America. The story gives a deep insight into her trials and tribulations as she rises from her humble background to become the most powerful woman.

After the fateful event, Vera enlists in the United States Marine Corps under a new identity, Victoria Pierce. During the course of her career, she meets and falls in love with Sam Eagan, the senator. She also maintained a secret affair with him throughout her military career. Later, she becomes a military advisor for Sam when he runs for the president and becomes his vice-presidential candidate.

During her political feat, Victoria befriends Grace Brandon, a budding reporter from the New York Times. This friend turns foe when Grace stumbles upon evidence that gives her an insight into Victoria’s clandestine past. Does Grace manage to bring the truth to light as Victoria reaches the pinnacle of power? Read the book to learn more.

Victoria’s characterization is impeccable. Her transformation from a young girl with a tumultuous past to a tenacious woman whose moral ethics become questionable in her relentless pursuit of power is awe-inspiring. A woman with a dark past who also maintains a clandestine affair with the senator who runs for the president adds layers of complexity to her character.

Victoria’s persistence is greatly admired. Her fierce will to survive an unbelievable series of events that would have defeated any ordinary woman is apparent in the way she has risen to impeccable heights. Her relentless struggle to stay on the right side of the law is proof of the fact that connections with the wrong group of people can have catastrophic effects on our lives.

The story flows seamlessly without any deviation. Frequent references to flashbacks irked me a little, but it did not detract from the overall enjoyment. All things considered, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for the compelling narrative that showcases the enigmatic Victoria Pierce’s rise to power and the relentless pursuit of truth by Grace Brandon. I found one error; hence, the book has been adequately proofread. Ideal for readers interested in a fictional intrigue with politics as the main mood of the story.
