Review of E M P Honeymoon
E M P Honeymoon, penned by the talented Dorothy May Mercer, emerges as a captivating sequel to her beloved "Cynthia and Dan" series. The narrative unfolds dramatically, plunging readers into the heart of the action from the very first scene. We find Kelly, breathless and terrified, pursued by shadowy figures on the remote island of Honduras. With her cop husband, Tom, away on a fishing expedition, Kelly's sense of isolation intensifies as she grapples with the alarming situation unfolding before her. Stumbling upon a peculiar gift shop named "Pigsty," Kelly's instincts scream danger, suspecting it to be a facade for illicit dealings. In a panic, she reaches out to her brother, Senator McBride, whose bewilderment at her frantic call during her honeymoon underscores the gravity of the situation. Amidst Kelly's disjointed account of terrorists and impending danger, the question looms: can her brother rescue her from this perilous threat, and how expansive is the conspiracy at play?
Mercer skillfully crafts a narrative that grips readers from the onset, ensuring accessibility even to those unfamiliar with the preceding series. The attention to character development and backstory adds depth, enriching the reader's investment in the unfolding events. With a relentless pace and multifaceted action unfolding across various fronts, the story maintains an exhilarating momentum throughout. I loved the dynamics of the “USA Team” in play. It’s like watching a chase movie where all the parties involved are intense and there is a ruthless dictator who is hell-bent on destroying the lives of the USA, and it can only be saved with the help of mere intelligent citizens and officers coordinating with the US government.
While I admire Mercer's mastery of the thriller genre, it must be noted that the conclusion, though satisfactory, feels somewhat abrupt. A more nuanced and climactic finale would have elevated the overall impact of the narrative.
Despite minor typographical errors, E M P Honeymoon merits an unequivocal 5 out of 5 star rating. Mercer's ability to deliver a compelling thriller, characterized by its accessible yet enthralling prose, is commendable. It is a gripping, uncomplicated thriller with a fulfilling read. And this book did justice to my expectations.
Enthusiasts of the genre, particularly fans of Mercer's previous works, will undoubtedly relish this installment and eagerly anticipate future offerings. As you delve into the pages of E M P Honeymoon, rest assured that you're embarking on a thrilling journey that promises excitement and satisfaction.
