The deadly pub by Ann Parker

Post by Charmaine Mahlangu »

Gossip mongers from St. Mary's Church start the chapter of the book on a high note. How they describe the devil in Dora Bream is hilarious. It is all followed by giggles every now and then. They wonder and ask each other about why Dora did not make it to church today. They are concerned but ironically so , they did not bother to go and check up on her. The Vicar and his wife left shortly after church to check up on her, only to find her lifeless body strangled to death with a scarf in her house.

Like every other elderly retired woman , Dora had a routine. She woke up every morning at six- thirty to have a cup of tea with two biscuits. Some days are spent making deposits and some are spent going to the local library. The homicide of any elderly woman puzzles any community as we all know they are the only people that are vulnerable and cannot do much harm. Dora was rumoured to ask a lot as much as know a lot and anything could have caused anyone to harm her .

Detective Chief inspector Johnson was on his third pint of Red lion when he was disturbed about this homicide on a Sunday . He was a miserable man and his partner Mills was somehow used to him by now. Passing all the way to the crime scene he looked at no one but where he was heading . He was a man ready to solve this case.

Detective wasn't the only one who could solve cases. The deadly detective agency was a squad of dead people that solved cases. Yes , dead people . Their spirits and meetings were located in the local library waiting for something else to be solved. Unfortunately on that Sunday , Abigail,Suzie, Betty and Lillian Yin were enjoying their day off . They had solved two cases the previous week.

As these two teams and more people get involved to solving Doras case , the truth is uncovered and a side of Dora that we did not know comes to light.

An excellent read with great editing skills. The descriptions of the characters was iconic and enjoyable to watch. A 5 out of 5 rating for this great read. You would swear I was caught in a movie . The author allows our imagination to do most of the illustrating with less descriptions and more dialogues in between .
Be yourself and nothing less
