Kelly, the youngest sister of Senator Mike McBride, and Tom, a police officer, are on honeymoon in West Bay, Honduras. While Tom goes out on a dive boat to explore the beautiful coral reefs, Kelly joins an excursion around the island. She stumbles upon suspicious activity in the back of a gift shop. Kelly calls Mike when she has to run from several pursuers. The CIA will not provide any helpful information. Mike sends Aggy and Sharon, two members of his secret team of investigators, to Honduras. Steve is a CIA operative undercover in Honduras. He reluctantly joins forces with the honeymoon couple and investigators, and the team uncovers a plot by the Koreans to overthrow the USA.

Dorothy May Mercer’s book, “EMP Honeymoon,” is an action-packed and fast-paced novel. There were many scenes that I loved. Steve, the macho CIA man, is outsmarted by Aggy and Sharon and subsequently suffers from a bruised ego. The author includes comments from the press on the appearance of the First Lady, her clothes, and her designer during one of the appearances of the President of the USA. This does not move the plot forward, but it is exactly what happens in real life and adds authenticity to the story. The leader of the terrorist team is a woman, and, as a result of her sheltered life in Korea, we see the Western world very differently through her eyes. One of the Koreans is brave enough to act against the cruel Dear Leader, the Chairman of Homeland. The brave Korean is the true hero of the story. It was inspiring to see his courage and concern for humanity.

Dorothy is a skilled storyteller. She ensures that the reader stays engaged in her narrative. Her research on solar flares and electromagnetic pulses (EMP) is impeccable. I learned a lot from her about these topics. She has a great sense of humor, the ability to create and maintain suspense, and the ability to introduce romance without slowing the pace.

There was nothing in the book that I did not enjoy. The end was rushed, but everything was neatly concluded in the epilogue. I found no errors and concluded that the book was exceptionally well edited.

Based on the analysis provided in the previous paragraphs, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is a lighthearted, highly entertaining read. I recommend it to people who enjoy action, humor, and a bit of romance.
