The Middle Reaches (Episodes 1-8) is an adult dark fantasy mystery thriller by L. Andrew Cooper which gives you a ‘Stranger Things’ vibe. It gives you a sense of watching a series and drags you to a world of secrets and mystery. It is filled with graphic violence, sexual themes, and profanity, so it is meant for adult audiences only.

Episodes 1-8 surround five friends, who get together after their high school reunion. They are bound together very closely due to an incident during which they lost one of their friends when they were teenagers. They were traumatized by the incident and haven't spoken to each other about it in a long time. All of them are haunted by the incident in different ways but refuse to talk about it or are even scared to share their spooky dreams. The place where they lost their friend is called the Middle Reaches and they know that the place is special in some way that can pull them in. They decide to visit the place once again for closure. Are they going back to the danger that took their friend? Can they come back from this? These questions will grip you to the book.

I loved the writing style of the book. Focusing on each character at a time and going back and forth to go into the thoughts of each character was enjoyable. This writing style gave the book the feeling of watching it on TV and painting a picture for the reader. I also loved the chemistry between the characters, and the secrets they hold that come out occasionally which shocks other characters as well. This is also a story of friendship, horny teenagers - now grown-up adults, secret crushes. Their recollection of school days helps the reader understand the relationship between each character. The mystery that is the middle reaches and what happened to their friend are the questions that will drive you to read this story. So far, I am gripped and I want to continue reading to know what happens next.

This book is best suited for dark fantasy and mystery lovers. The editing work is good. I do not have any negative comments on the book. Therefore, I give this book a wholehearted 5 out of 5.
