Dorothy May Mercer’s E M P Honeymoon infuses a well-known idea—a honeymoon spoiled by a burst of escaping energy—with a strong electric charge. Kelly, a smooth-talking ex-government agent, and Tom, a highly calm cop, receive their carnage of a Honduran honeymoon when a devastating electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack occurs.
Mercer draws a picture of the perfect resort island, then watches it all come crashing down with the buzzing of electronic devices in those last few seconds. In a split second, chaos overcomes, and the reader finds himself amid Tom and Kelly as they battle with the new situation. Tom's pedantic and deliberate style conflicts with Kelly's impatience, not only within the story but also when it comes to their relationship.

Though the rapidity is sustained, it somehow wanes as the story picks up on their adventures. The scientific descriptions of the EMP, which are undoubtedly informative, sometimes hinder the narrative progress. Another honeymoon couple was added to provide a coinciding plot but ended up being an incomplete and redundant storyline.

It is investing in the area where E M P Honeymoon takes the lead as it portrays human resilience. While Kelly and Tom are resourceful and keep on assisting other individuals, there is a possibility of finding a place in the dark world. I did not find any cons to this book, as the book does not owe anything to any pretty version of a world after EMP, but it also portrays how mental strength is obtained in a community. The writing style and the editing were by far the best; that's why I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

At last, E M P Honeymoon is an excellent fusion genre that allows you to have an exciting time with the tinge of a love story. Although some plot details might be obvious and the world-building could be more descriptive, the most successful part of the story is its simple characters immersed in extraordinary lives.
