Laura Drummond grew up in a strict Catholic household. Her parents barely allowed her to go to the freshman dance. One day, when Laura was coming home from her freshman dance, she was brutally attacked. The attacker sexually assaults her and stabs her multiple times before leaving her to die. She somehow miraculously survives and grows up to become an outstanding detective. However, due to her traumatic past, she is afraid of getting into a real relationship. She goes through one casual hookup after another. But one day she meets Sharon, whom she wants to get close to after the initial hookup. She thought she could finally love someone, but this potential romance gets interrupted by a series of murders. The pattern of assault and murder is exactly similar to her own teenage assault. Now her whole world has turned upside down, and she finds it hard to focus on work. Now she has to face the trauma that she has tried to avoid all these years. Can she hold herself calm while solving a series of murders that might have a direct connection to her past? Will she catch the serial killer who destroyed her life? Why is he striking again after all these years? Discover the secrets that Laura needs to find out to solve this case in this crime, mystery, and thriller book, Conceptus by Brian Herskowitz.

There are several things I liked about this book. This book was a pure gem. The story is so good that a movie can be made with it. I liked the mystery in this book a lot. It surprised me a lot of times. That is how a fiction book should be written, with such a gripping and engaging narrative that you cannot stop reading it. The characters were relatable. The primary character, Laura, shows immense strength and courage to come out of the situation alive and be able to live a life without any support. Reading the story of Laura will give courage to people who have been through trauma, even if it is fiction. The editing was also done professionally, with very few minor errors I found.

There is one aspect of the story that I did not like, but I cannot tell you without spoiling the story. Otherwise, I have no further complaints.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, as this book is almost perfect, according to me. I recommend this book to all fiction lovers and fans of this genre. This is as good a book as you can find in this genre. It is surely one of the best of what I have read so far in this genre. This book might not be for a young audience as it contains descriptions of sexual assault, severe profanity, and erotic scenes.

Interesting novel, The novel would be more than ideal if the writer added ways to deal with the painful past indirectly. I liked your style of writing the review :tiphat: :tiphat:

I'm not a great fan of protagonists with a traumatic past but in this occasion there might be a connection between present and past that makes that past a significant part of the investigation. Thank you for your great review!

The book "Conceptus appears very interesting. Laura, an outstanding detective, sets out to catch the serial killer who traumatized her in the past. Because of this trauma not being addressed in therapy, she goes through one casual hook up to another. I will put this book on my list to read. I want to know how she confronts her serial killer. Thank you for an excellent review!
