Plausible Liars by Lin Wilder

Ever imagined how it would feel to be trapped in a body that does not feel like its yours? What would you do? Where would you start? Joey Carmichael who was born a girl , at age eight she already knew she wanted to be a boy.

Born in California in a small town called Strawberry, Zoe who later changes her name to Joey is raised by a single parent ,who hopes that one day her little girl will look like her. Unfortunately Joey had other plans. During her college years she takes testosterone pills to suppress her puberty from happening . This stops her menstrual cycle completely and gives her male characteristics. But unfortunately her breasts can't stop being binded on a daily basis. This pushes her to decide on having a double mastectomy. A top job . The removal of her breasts. On the eve of her surgery she decides she actually wants to be a girl now. Will she go ahead with her surgery? Does this mean she has decided to be Zoe again and no longer Joey? Who is her financial sponsor because these are all expensive procedures? The rest is in between the pages.

This is an amazing book to read . I learnt a lot from this book . It helps to know that the LGBTQ community sometimes feel out of place within their bodies and that for me was phenomenal to know. I kept wondering how I would have to support my daughter should she go through such.

While reading you can't help but be transported to Joey shoes who happens to move effortlessly without looking back . Her past does not hold her back and that's the problem here. She completely blocked it off but clearly it affects her without knowing or being aware of it .

The author did such an amazing job on compiling this mystery to such a point that I found little to no fault in the book . The characters coming into the story are properly introduced and relevant in the book too. A 5 out of 5 from me on this one . This was truly an exceptional read .
Be yourself and nothing less
