The possibilities for the downfall of humanity are endless. Will the obliteration of the human race be of our own doing?
Pulse: Book One by B.A. Bellec is a science fiction novel set in the not-too-distant. The book follows many characters in their various pursuits: Mark- an affluent brat trying to carve his path in an already-existent empire, and his aged father, Natalee- the spearhead of an opposing group of protesters and borderline terrorists hell-bent on bringing down Mark and his father’s corporation, and so many others caught in the crossfire.
Pulse: Book One is filled with the fears many of us hold in our minds each day regarding our path as a society and the future we have set in motion. Where will these decisions lead us? It unlocks every conspiracy theory swirling around on the internet and validates its reality in the everyday lives of all. From social media obsessions to big corporate greed, political corruptness, and even alien coverup conspiracies, this book has it all and presents it in a not-so-over-the-top manner. We can tell ourselves what we need to hear to ease our fears but what if the things we’re afraid of aren’t so impossible after all?
The book was intense from beginning to end, making it impossible to put down. It was captivating and held me firmly in its grasp from the first page to the last. I found it to be thought-provoking without sacrificing any entertainment. There was never a dull moment. One dislike I have is the rapid introduction of many characters at the beginning of the book, making it easy to get confused about each character’s past and present. Still, I found this issue was corrected as I read further and each character's backstory was reinforced. I did not feel it took away from the book’s overall excellence. With that being said, I loved the book and found it to be edited superbly, therefore I rate Pulse: Book One 5 out of 5. I look forward to Book Two.
