Dorothy May Mercer wrote a thrilling sci-fi story called 'E M P Honeymoon,' blending suspense, action, and thrilling adventures seamlessly. It's the thirteenth book in the McBride series. This book stands out on its own while contributing to the overarching narrative of the series.

The story revolves around newlyweds Kelly and Tom Turbulo, whose serene honeymoon on a resort island takes an unexpected turn when Kelly stumbles upon a dangerous terrorist plot. Kelly’s accidental encounter with a fake toyshop fronting a high-tech lab reveals a chilling scheme to disrupt North America's electricity with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Realizing the gravity of the situation, Kelly swiftly contacts her brother, Senator Mike McBride, who involves Assistant Director Joseph to help thwart the impending disaster.

What makes "E M P Honeymoon" particularly engaging is the compelling character dynamics and the high stakes of their mission. Kelly’s skills in computer decoding and Tom’s experience as a city policeman make them an incredibly effective duo. Their dedication and willingness to sacrifice their honeymoon for national security are both admirable and inspiring. This couple's compatibility and teamwork are portrayed with such depth that they become the epitome of an ideal partnership in fiction.

Dorothy May Mercer’s writing style is fluid and fast-paced, ensuring that each chapter ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger, compelling readers to keep turning the pages. The vivid descriptions of the potential consequences of a nuclear attack are both thrilling and thought-provoking, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

The novel also excels in its portrayal of teamwork and collaboration. The formation of Team USA, comprising Kelly, Tom, Aggie, Sharon, and Steve, showcases how diverse skills and personalities can come together to tackle a common threat. Their interactions, laced with brief communications and light-hearted jokes, add a layer of realism and relatability to the narrative.

Something notable about this book is that the interview section with Dr. Peter Kinney about solar flares and EMPs is particularly enlightening, breaking down complex scientific concepts into easily understandable terms. This not only enhances the reader’s understanding of the plot but also adds a layer of realism to the fictional threat, and I don't dislike anything about the book.

Despite its numerous strengths, there are minor areas where the book could have delved deeper. For instance, the character of Lieutenant Rhee Su-jin had limited development, which slightly detracted from the otherwise well-rounded cast. However, this did not significantly impact the overall enjoyment of the story, and this book is free of errors, which means it is exceptionally well edited.

Dorothy May Mercer’s ability to craft a thrilling plot with well-developed characters makes this book hard to put down. It is highly recommended for fans of suspense, thrillers, and action-packed novels. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for its creativity, educational value, and the sheer excitement it delivers from start to finish.
