Martin Kendall's fast-moving thrillerThe Freedom Building centers on 48-year-old architect John Gowan, who co-owns Gowan Partners with his friend Pete Williams. His dream has always been to create a structure with a deeper meaning. John visits the debris after terrorists bombed the Zenith building to measure the area and become an architect for new construction. However, he crashes into a car on the way home, hits his head, and ends up in the hospital. When he awakens, he finds three and a half years have passed. Since John is well-known worldwide for designing "The Freedom Building's" structure, the doctor gave him a newspaper and asked him to sign it. John's amnesia prevents him from remembering events from the previous three and a half years, which is unfortunate.

Though there were a few things I did not like, overall, I enjoyed this book. The story, for instance, needed more depth at times and became monotonous. I would have loved to know more about the tramp on the bench or about John's daughter—maybe just a couple of the intimate details about the characters the author could have included. Additionally, there were instances where the characters were in one location with no transition to a different location in the paragraph that followed. I was interested throughout, and the amnesia plot was a great way to keep me wondering if he would ever get better.

All in all, it was a pleasant read. The author's distinctive writing style, which bordered on poetry, was a unique feature that enhanced my understanding of what I was reading and kept me captivated throughout. For example, the trees appeared to wave back at him as the breeze tickled their leaves, and the air grew thicker with age.

The book editing was of the highest caliber, and I found no mistakes. I really enjoyed the book, which sets it apart from other books in the same genre. It received my highest rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I heartily and confidently recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written, captivating story or crime thriller.
