Shucked Up by Leelon Edwards is the third installment in the Mack and Drew series. However, it can be read as a stand-alone. Drew and Mack have been asked to see how the locals of Florida will react to a new mandate on the processing of oysters. Raw oysters carry disease, and this mandate is expected to save lives. However, the seafood industry relies on oysters to turn a profit and maintain their livelihood. When Mack is poisoned, it's up to Drew to find out who is targeting his friend.

The murder mystery in this book is excellent. I thought that Edwards did an amazing job of threading clues throughout the novel without being too obvious. Eagle-eyed readers might be able to solve the case before the big reveal, which can be quite fun. I thought there was a nice balance between unexpected twists and logical clues to follow as I read along.

I also appreciated the secondary plot around Alex. He is a man who follows a strict schedule and is friendly with those in town. He frequents the same establishments on the same days and is known by the workers. He lives a simple life. He lives on his boat and visits the library and the bar. However, one day, his boat is shot because someone doesn't like where he had tied it. Alex is determined to figure out who disturbed his way of life.

Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book was generally well-edited, with only a few minor errors throughout. I enjoyed the general premise of the book and trying to solve the mystery alongside Mack and Drew. The rich setting details brought the book to life, along with the secondary story revolving around Alex. My only dislike is that, at times, the pace slowed a bit. However, this is a minor issue that did not detract from my reading experience. This book is a perfect rainy-day read, and it is a great choice for those who enjoy a murder mystery and a Florida setting. Also, being part of a series, if you enjoyed this one, there is more content to read!

This sounds like a fun story. I can relate to shucking oysters, as I have been known to do so with the accompaniment of beer. I enjoy books that are not long and drawn out. This murder mystery plot suits me just fine. Thank you for the great review. I am adding this book to my bookshelves.

This is a very well-written murder mystery that is fictitious.I find the plot's setting surprising; it's really original where you can see the plot is set healthy and harmful qualities of food. I've always loved this genre the most. There are logical hints scattered throughout, and you have to follow them all to uncover the huge reveal creating great enthusiasm in readers. will undoubtedly add it to my collection.

A murder mystery that can be enjoyed by both readers who just want to read a good story with twists and expert of the genre who like to follow the clues is good for a lot of people. It can be read as a stand-alone but I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!

I love a good mystery book. I like to be able to follow the clues to see if I can solve it before the characters. I do this with my cop shows too. I am glad this book can be read as a stand alone. I'll be starting this book today!

Alas, I am not an oyster enjoyer, and seeing all those oysters on the cover killed my appetite. I still appreciate the book as a food poisoning mystery though.

That book sounds like a good time. The setting is pretty interesting and the possibility to solving it before the characters is intriguing, if I ever feel a itchy for some fun mystery I would be willing to give it a try.

This truly does seem to have everything one would find in a classic mystery. This just goes to show that the “basics” of a process can go a long way if you let them. I also just have to say about the book cover: Clever. Very clever.

I don't pick up novels in the middle of a series, so this one isn't for me. But from the review, it appears that Mr. Edwards has concocted a nice story with some interesting characters. Perhaps I'll go back and start the series at the beginning. Congrats to the author on BOTD.

A book with two plots brings that little bit of extra to the table. I love mysteries, a Florida setting with boats and oysters makes one dream away. I will surely read this book and hopefully enjoy it as much as the reviewer, maybe even to the point that I want to read the first two books as well.
