The second new moon of the month of September is what astronomers call the "Black Moon." It was on this day that Fred Burke, a prison transport driver; Steve Bauman, a U.S. marshal; and Todd Bigelow, a Montana State corrections officer, met their untimely deaths. They were transporting a bunch of Gang members of the Los Cinco Dedes Cartel; what they didn't know was that the Gang members led by Alvaro Machado had an elaborate plan put in place to aid their escape. Marco, one of the gang members, began siezing, foam and froth coming out of his mouth. This made the officers stop the bus in an attempt to help the prisoner, but that was just a ruse. The prisoners took that as a chance, killed all three men, took their uniforms, commandeered a Suburban after killing the owner, and escaped, heading west. Why did the prisoners head west instead of south, which was the route to Mexico? Where were they headed? Were they caught? Who is Jack Barrett, and what is his involvement in this book? Dave McClure, CIA principal assistant for special activities, and his subordinates Dan Callahan, Gerry Albrecht, and Al Dixon made plans to go flyfishing in Missoula, Montana. Al, Dan, and Gerry had been going for years, but this time they invited Dave to join them. Having planned the trip for the whole year, they were all excited. On their way to Bitterroot Inn, where they made reservations, they were pulled over by a rookie trooper cop rather rudely, which made Dave play rank and divulge the fact that they were in fact senior-ranking officers. This made the officer give them a heads-up on the series of events that happened. They thanked the trooper and headed to their destination; unbeknownst to them, they were still going to get entangled.

One thing I love about this book is the author's descriptions and attention to detail. He gave background information about all the characters and gave an insight into their lives and activities. It was like watching a crime series like Brooklyn 99 or Monk. Dave reminded me of Adrian Monk, the detective; it was as if trouble followed him anywhere he went, even when he clearly didn't want to get involved. My favorite character in the book is Dave McClure; he was your typical action movie main character. He was fast, smart, and calculated. 

The only thing I disliked about the book was the numerous names; it was hard to keep track, but that isn't enough reason to remove a point. This book was exceptionally well edited; I found no errors in the book, and for that reason, I'm giving it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It contained a lot of colorful language and swear words, but I guess that is normal. I recommend this book to lovers of fiction and crime.
