[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Other World: My Kansas City of Sorriws" by Enid Angela Ziock.]
The quality of a man’s life is not measured by how much he owns or acquires, but by the impact of his life and the wealth of his achievements. The Other World: My Kansas City of Sorrows by Enid Angela Ziock is an adventure and suspense novel that tells the story of Ella and Cole’s lives as homeowners, trying to create as much impact in Kansas City as possible.
When Cole announced that he had bought a house in Kansas, Ella did not really know what to expect. She, however, realised that there were extreme racial barriers and segregation that made life as a homeowner very difficult. Cole, her husband, was simply interested in making profits and creating an utopian world where blacks and whites could coexist peacefully, which was far-fetched. On the other hand, Captain Demarcus Dionne, a member of the Kansas City Police, had just helped crack a gambling case and had received accolades. However, he had no idea of the danger he was putting himself and his family in.
I totally enjoyed the story. I loved the very detailed explanation of how racism and segregation can impede a society’s growth. The book contained a lot of tragic events that were heart-wrenching and moving. I also loved the portrayal of honesty and service that was vividly seen in the book. I also loved the vivid descriptions of places, which made it easy to visualise the events and characters in the book. It was a very beautiful and enjoyable read.
I did not dislike anything about the book. Although I found a spelling error, I think the book was beautifully edited. I loved the slight suspense in the story and the beautiful narrative employed in the book. The author's writing style was detailed and very explanatory, which made it very easy to understand and follow the story. I really enjoyed reading the book.
I rate this book five out of five stars for its captivating and beautifully written storyline. The book was well edited, although I found a spelling error while reading it. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for individuals interested in adventure and suspense books. I also highly recommend this book for individuals looking for an interesting novel. This is a very beautiful and amazing read.
