Review of The Kovalenko Secret
Colonel Viktor Kovalenko’s daughter is off to begin her ballet career in the United States. Afterwards, he finds out something is strange in his new Chelyabinsk station. A nuclear device suddenly disappears and is nowhere to be found. As a result , he is saddled with the responsibility of hunting it down. Bearing in mind the adverse effects this weapon could bring, Viktor resolves to retrieve it regardless. The plot gets more tense as Katrina, Viktor's daughter, also disappears. Read on to find out if Colonel Victor is able to uncover his enemies’ plot on time.
I read in awe as the book’s plot gradually built up to the point of climax. Here, readers will have the opportunity to learn firsthand how terrorists operate, in addition to the unique strategies employed by the government to hunt them down. I admire how the author creatively put different pieces together until everything made sense. Again, it is evident Rettew is conversant with the technicalities of people, locations, and agencies included in the book.
Another feature that stands out for me is the effortless flow of sentences. I equally enjoyed reading through the author’s simple style. All these contribute to the buildup of tension and drama. The characters were well rounded, which helped add more depth and uniqueness to the plot.
I have no negatives to state in this book, and I must commend the editing team, as there were no errors found. For these reasons, I give it a well-deserved rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
"The Kovalenko Secret" by Philip L. Rettew is an interesting read and an ideal recommendation to lovers of stories on terrorists and their clandestine activities, geography, suspense, cultural differences, human values, and political intrigue. It is equally ideal for a mature audience, as there are profanities.
