“E M P Honeymoon” by Dorothy May Mercer is a captivating science fiction novel that paints a vivid picture of a world in danger. The story centers on newlyweds Kelly and Tom Turbulo, who are enjoying their honeymoon at a beautiful resort in Honduras. Their perfect holiday at Paradise Island turns sour when Kelly is assaulted while souvenir hunting. She successfully escapes and reaches out to her brother, Senator Mike McBride, for assistance. Mike, in turn, contributes their input to Assistant Director Joseph. They discover a list of terrorist activities targeting North America and set out to prevent such a tragedy from happening. Through the interaction of the characters and the portrayal of personalities and events that are real-life, coupled with daring circumstances, this book is highly recommended to anyone who loves these types of novels.

The book is a page-turner that gives one an apprehensive look at events that might not be farfetched at all. Dorothy May Mercer succeeds in bringing the details of the terrorist plot to life and keeps the reader captivated till the very last page. The story has several instances when the protagonists seem to be on the short end of the stick, and the reader is left wondering whether or not disaster will undoubtedly follow.

One of the most prominent aspects where it really shines is in the area of tension, which is established from page one and does not let go. Those qualities are complimented by the overall fast pace of the story line and by the rich structure of the point of view, which is provided and shown with multiple degrees of latitude, so the reader gets a view of each character’s motivations as well as his state of mind. Mercer’s crisp and polished prose makes for an immersive reading experience. The vivid descriptions bring every event and character to life, making it easy to visualize Tom, Kelly, and their teammates in action. Mercer’s detailed storytelling keeps readers captivated throughout. I found nothing to dislike about this book. It was exceptionally well edited.

I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of it and was left wanting more. My enjoyment of this book has motivated me to seek out more works by Dorothy May Mercer. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in stories about the battle for control over the US by terrorist groups. Fans of science fiction, action, and crime novels will find “EMP Honeymoon” particularly captivating. Mercer’s skillful mix of thrilling action, intriguing plot twists, and well-developed characters makes this book a must-read.
