Barry Finlay’s “Secret Truth” is an exhilarating thriller, a tale of love, revenge, and intellect. Former investigative reporter Jake Scott narrowly escapes being run over by a car and a fatal explosion at a Bed and Breakfast apartment. Daniella Perez, his friend and a detective, had a hunch that the explosion was a homicide. Thus Jake, although retired, begins preliminary investigations. His innate investigative abilities enabled him to follow his intuition, which guided him through a sequence of events and into individuals' lives to obtain relevant information for the case.

The author’s attention to detail was remarkable, as we could see through the letters, the emotions involved. The author did a good job keeping us in suspense till the very end. It was a delight that the main characters in the book were well developed. Jake was a retired reporter and seemed to have gotten to the peak of his career with impressive records. Dani was very good at her job, well accomplished, and had impressive versatility in her field. The fact that everyone that was a subject of investigation had personal secrets gave the book a wild twist and heightened the already built-up suspense.

The most exciting thing about this book is that it portrays the value of family and emphasizes the advantage of having loved ones. Jake’s cat, Oliver, was also a beaming epitome of love. Jake was surrounded by friends who always looked forward to having breakfast together and celebrating their wins. Dani divorced, and Jake widowed together, wades through the rigors of uncovering a network of hidden truths. The author takes us on a ride as the turn of events gets even more complicated with each discovery.

I didn’t find any aspect to dislike about this book, save a few minor errors. Although, it didn’t alter my reading experience in any way. Otherwise, the book was professionally edited and grammatically succinct. The choice of words was spectacular, making it an enjoyable read. Taking into account the aforementioned aspects, I am delighted to award this a rating of five out of five stars.

I wholeheartedly endorse this book to anybody who enjoys thrillers and suspense since it lives up to the genre. This book is a great option if you're looking for something to read that will both calm you down and stimulate your thoughts.
