"E M P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer is a riveting entry in the McBride series, combining elements of science fiction, suspense, and action. The book follows newlyweds Tom and Kelly Turbulo as their honeymoon in Honduras takes an unexpected turn. What was meant to be a peaceful getaway becomes a race against time when Kelly stumbles upon a terrorist plot to launch an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack on the United States. With the help of her brother, Senator Michael McBride, and a few trusted allies, the couple dives headfirst into an investigation that leads them into the heart of a dangerous conspiracy.

From the outset, Mercer’s ability to create tension and maintain it throughout the story is impressive. The plot is expertly crafted, with each chapter building on the previous one, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The author's detailed descriptions allow readers to visualize the unfolding events vividly, making the suspense even more palpable. I was particularly struck by how the story blends the personal—Tom and Kelly’s budding marriage—with the global stakes of national security. This dual focus adds depth to the narrative, making it more than just a typical action thriller.

One of the strengths of "E M P Honeymoon" is its character development. Tom and Kelly are portrayed as more than just action heroes; they are real people with emotions, doubts, and a strong sense of duty. Their relationship is central to the story, and Mercer does an excellent job of showing how their love for each other fuels their determination to protect their country. The inclusion of recurring characters from the series, like Cynthia and Sky, adds a sense of continuity that fans of the McBride series will appreciate.

I also enjoyed the way Mercer integrated scientific concepts into the story. The explanations of EMPs and their potential effects were clear and accessible, even to readers without a background in science. This attention to detail not only made the plot more believable but also enriched the reader’s understanding of the dangers posed by such technology.

Despite the high stakes and intense action, the book remains well-paced and balanced. There are moments of tension and danger, but there are also lighter, more reflective scenes that allow the characters—and the readers—to catch their breath. This balance is crucial in keeping the narrative engaging without overwhelming the reader.

There is little to criticize about "E M P Honeymoon" The book is exceptionally well-edited, with no noticeable errors, which is a testament to the professionalism of both the author and the editor. The story flows smoothly, and every plot point feels purposeful and well-thought-out.

I rate "E M P Honeymoon" 5 out of 5 stars. The book excels in all the key areas: plot, character development, pacing, and editing. It’s a compelling read that will appeal to fans of action, science fiction, and political thrillers. The primary reason for this rating is the book's ability to keep me engaged from start to finish, with a plot that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrilling story about patriotism, love, and the fight against terrorism.
