What would happen if someone leaked the information from the Witness Protection Program? How would they do it? What would they do with it? Disappearance by Julien Ayotte answers those exact questions, and the answers might surprise even the most creative reader.

When people decide to leave everything behind and join the Witness Protection Program, they are supposed to be safe. And that was true for most of them. When Larry Morgan was murdered, everyone was surprised. When a second witness is killed, Paul O’Malley, the head of the U.S. Marshals Service, is certain there has been a leak, but who is the leak and how can he find it? Soon, Paul will enlist Harry Esten, a retired FBI agent, to help him solve the mystery, but those responsible seem to always be one step ahead of the authorities. With a chase that will take everyone across the United States, even internationally, it is easy to miss some important details. Will they find everyone involved before another witness is killed?

I absolutely loved this book; I was captivated from the first page up until the last page. Surprise kept appearing in each chapter, and I was never able to predict what would happen. The characters were perfectly constructed, and it was easy to understand what was happening and who was saying and doing what. Each character had a clear voice. I loved reading about the chase between the Marshals and the killer, as I felt part of the team. The characters were so incredibly constructed that I ended up liking the killer as much as Paul.

I was disappointed with some minor details, especially towards the end, as I was afraid the author was going to rush the ending. The book's logical conclusion satisfied my doubts. The author even created the perfect ending for a following novel, something I hope I can read soon.

Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book has been professionally edited, as I only found some minor errors, especially with some dialogue written in Spanish. This is nothing that distracts the readers. The violent scenes were not overly graphic (but for more sensitive readers they might be), something I appreciated from the author’s writing style.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy action-packed mystery novels. This book does contain profanity, and I believe it is best to be read only by adults.
