“Odd Gems," by Suri R. Moon, is a horror fiction book that combines elements of science, spirituality, and magic. Roy Dough, a bubbly six-year-old, is going to Connecticut on a passenger train with his mother, Ella. Unfortunately, she falls asleep and is unaware when Roy gets kidnapped by Lawrence and Ravena Maquiller. This couple is in dire need of a son to sacrifice for a ritual. What is this ritual for? And why did they choose Roy for this assignment? Get a copy of the book to find out.

I like the book’s plot; it is unique and highly engaging. Also, it contains elements of mystery and suspense, as these heighten the readers’ curiosity to find out how events are being resolved. I got to learn more about alter egos, as seen in the character of Lawrence Maquiller, who changed into a mime to lure Roy away from Ella, his mother, in order to carry out a successful kidnapping. Again, Gilbert is an alter ego of Lawrence’s who Ravena loves the most, as he is a charming gentleman with great dance moves. These moves are described by the author as ‘shaking his limbs like leaves’. This book is a wake-up call to mothers who take their children on rides. Although one can fall asleep at anytime due to exhaustion, it is important to always be alert to avoid a situation like a kidnapping from occurring.

There are aspects of the book I didn’t like. First, there isn't proper character development, as there are no background details given about Ella and her six-year-old son, Roy, before the kidnapping happened. Furthermore, I didn’t like how the book ended, as nothing was said about what happened to Ella years after her son’s kidnapping. I believe the author should work towards improving on these areas. For these peculiar reasons, I rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

There are errors found in the book too, although these didn’t impair my reading experience. I recommend it to readers who enjoy books on horror and gruesome murders. This book is also ideal for people who enjoy thrillers, mystery, magic, spells, and suspense.

Suri R. Moon's collection of short stories "Odd Gems" covers a wide range of subjects, genres, and characters. The author deftly crafts original stories that highlight her adaptability and creativity. From the enigmatic to the endearing, every story is unique and frequently takes an unexpected turn.

Despite its little narrative length, the story merits praise for its inventiveness and nuanced character development. Like any anthology, readers could, nevertheless, identify more emotionally with some pieces than with others. Since the collection offers a little bit of everything, as has been mentioned, it will appeal to readers who value diversity in short fiction.

I didn't expect the story to turn out that way when I looked at the cover or the title itself. It is so cruel to kidnap this young boy from his mother, and for a sinister goal. Thank you for your thorough review.

Odd Gems by Suri R. Moon blends horror with elements of science and magic in a suspenseful tale about a young boy’s abduction and a dark ritual. The unique plot, featuring alter egos and a chilling kidnapping, offers a fresh take on the horror genre. While the character development and resolution could be stronger, the book’s eerie atmosphere and gripping storyline make it an intriguing read for fans of horror and suspense.

"Odd Gems" by Suri R. Moon is a horror fiction novel that combines elements of science, spirituality, and magic. The plot follows six-year-old Roy Dough, who is kidnapped by Lawrence and Ravena Maquiller for a sacrificial ritual. The book is engaging with its unique and suspenseful storyline, exploring alter egos and providing a wake-up call to parents about staying vigilant. However, it lacks character development and has an unsatisfactory ending, leaving unresolved details about Roy's mother, Ella. Despite these shortcomings and some errors, it's recommended for fans of horror and thrillers, earning a 3 out of 5 stars.

This thriller with horror elements seems to have potential but that's not properly developed. I hope the author follows your recommendations and does more editing work to improve it. Thank you for your honest review!

*Odd Gems* seems like a gripping horror novel with an intriguing plot and suspenseful twists, though it appears some aspects, like character development, could be more fleshed out. I might give it a try to see how these elements play out!"
