When I watch action movies, there's this respect that is built in me for those strong individuals who refuse to kill a person in cold blood. They only attack and kill in defense when they are being attacked. This is the type of character Cora Walker, in Second Term by J. M. Adam, was. In this book, Cora, the main character was a woman with many combat skills. But she had a principle of not killing innocent people in cold blood. She also had distaste for those who did.

Cora was indeed a female warrior. In Benghazi, her skills were evident when she killed the Libyan terrorists who had plotted to attack and kill the American ambassador in their country. Cora was currently working for Sarah Vasquez, the House Speaker. President Terrance Locke had lost his election for a second term of ruling, but he didn't agree with the results. Hence, he plotted to make himself the president of America by force. President Locke was a tyrant who had no care for the people. He was also unscrupulous. But it seems that Speaker Sarah Vasquez of the Capitol was standing in his way of being president, so he caused a riot that would lead to her death. But with the efficient Cora, who is determined to protect America's democracy, at her side, will Sarah be killed and president Locke, whom Cora considers a threat to the nation, succeed?

Corah was of most interest to me in this book. She was a mother, a warrior, and a competent civil servant. She was a woman who had great calm during a storm. Fearless, she never missed her shots. She loved her daughter, Abby, so much, but bemoaned the fact that she didn't spend enough time with her. Cecilia Danforth recognized the excellent skills in Cora and made her work for her. Cecilia was another smart woman in this book that I appreciated. She was the president's stepdaughter but didn't appreciate the things her stepfather did. Hence, she became the green snake in green grass to him.

There was nothing to dislike in this book. I liked the action, the sectioned stories, the political thriller, and the exceptional characters. I knew what the ending of the story would be like, but I didn't know how it would be achieved. So it was intriguing to follow the story trying to figure out the complex characters, their thoughts, and their likely course of action. For all these reasons, I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I removed a star because I found errors. I recommend this book to those interested in a future American political thriller.

In your review, you express admiration for action movie characters who, like Cora Walker in *Second Term* by J. M. Adam, refuse to kill in cold blood, only using violence in self-defense. Cora is a skilled combatant working to protect Speaker Sarah Vasquez from a tyrannical President Terrance Locke, who lost his re-election bid and is trying to take power by force. Despite her violent skills, Cora values life and has a strong moral compass. You appreciated the character depth, the political intrigue, and the action-packed narrative, though you deducted a star for errors in the book. A thriller with important political ramification can be intriguing and this one seems well-constructed with a well-developed protagonist who finds herself involved in a political intrigue. Thank you for your great review!

I love the main character being a woman, and a mother. This gives an interesting perspective. I like thrillers, and this book seems to be one I would enjoy. Let's hope the errors will be filtered out after a next round of editing.

I could only sample a piece of the audio book on Amazon uk. But what I listened to was inviting and well thought out. We are taken immediately to the sea around Bhengazi, and the descriptions were good. I like it, just like the reviewer.

This looks like a very interesting book! I love a good bit of action and a female protagonist is an added bonus. It's a shame about the errors though. Hopefully they will be fixed quickly.

Nice review! The president in the book sounds very close to the one that we have in the White House now. I'm sure that this is a good book, but not one that I am interested in reading. Thanks for the review!

I am still wondering about what President Locke's motivation was, whether it was just greed or there was something behind the evil plot to undermine the will of the people. It will be thrilling to see Cora in action, especially the protection of the speaker, as it appears the forces of darkness are powerful.
Many thanks for the review, @Alissa Deann Devargas.

I really enjoyed reading your review. I like how you highlighted Cora’s strong moral code, especially her refusal to kill in cold blood. It’s also interesting that she’s not just a fighter but also a mother dealing with real-life struggles, like missing time with her daughter. The plot with President Locke trying to force his way back into power sounds intense. Your mention of Cecilia being a “green snake in green grass” made me curious about her role, too. Thanks for explaining the story so clearly!
