Review of Reckonings
Reckonings by Kevin Matthew Hayes is a fast-paced thriller that will capture your attention from the first page. The story revolves around the events and excitement that accompany Halloween celebrations. The author initiates this book with an intriguing epilogue, focusing on the mysterious life of a man named Jacques. After enlisting in General Sibley's new army, Jacques decides to have fun. Fate unites him with Annette, an encounter that begins a spell-binding narrative. On the other side, Ashley, Jessica, and Michael plan to celebrate Halloween in style. Grab a copy of this book and witness what happens next.
Following her mother's mysterious disappearance, Jesica is always against the idea of staying out late at night. However, Michael and Ashley convince her to make this night an exception. Incited by the glamor and thrill of the party, the youngsters decide to socialize and make the most of the night. The conversation between Jessica and Jacques escalates into an ugly and blood-chilling confrontation. The three friends must do all they can to save themselves from the horror surrounding them. However, their victimizers are not willing to let go of their prey. Will the friends survive? I invite you to find out.
There are several aspects of this book that I find compelling. First, the author's exceptional storytelling skills, vivid descriptions, and imagery make the book captivating. Second, the straightforward storyline ensures a smooth reading experience. Third, I admire Jessica and Ashley's resilience. They continued to fight despite their limited resources for nursing injuries. Fourth, the story is a stark reminder of the perils of socializing with strangers at parties and other social events. Lastly, I love the book's concise nature, which allowed me to read it more than once.
The editing team did a good job; however, I encountered several grammatical and typing errors. This editing flaw is the only aspect of the book I did not like. I hereby rate this book four out of five stars because of the negative aspect mentioned above. I recommend it to lovers of horror stories.
