The book E M P Honeymoon, by Dorothy May Mercer, tells the story of love, loyalty, duty to one’s country, and terrorism. The story begins with Tom and Kelly, a newlywed couple, on their honeymoon in Honduras. Kelly and Tom are both cops and have field experiences, so it is not surprising that they could handle themselves well when they came across what the ordinary person would call a conspiracy theory.

During their honeymoon, while Tom was out diving, Kelly decided to take a tour of the island, and while shopping for souvenirs, Kelly stumbles upon a gift shop called The Pigsty; little did she know that it wasn’t a real shop for gift items; instead, it was a cover for an evil operation intended to harm a lot of people. She was just at the wrong place and time, but this wrong timing saved many lives. Realizing she is in the wrong place, Kelly tries to leave, but an unknown person grabs her from behind. Kelly manages to escape and returns to the villa to wait for Tom, fearing that trying to reach him would put them both at risk as she fears the people looking for her would be tapping in and listening on calls to find her.

On their honeymoon, the couple find themselves unexpectedly responsible for taking down a powerful terrorist group and sabotaging their electromagnetic pulse attack. Chasing down terrorists and trying to combat an EMP attack wasn’t a mission they chose since they were there on their honeymoon. Still, a duty to their country required that they pause their honeymoon, realizing the gravity of the situation and having to put their country first. As they went deeper into this mission, they uncovered terrifying ways the USA could be crippled, losing its status as a world power. Still, they stayed courageous to save their nation and possibly the world from falling into the hands of a ruthless terrorist.

I loved that the couple remained steadfast in their love for one another even as they faced challenges on this mission and watched each other’s backs as partners should. I also liked that the story is clear and straightforward and keeps you on your toes, wanting to discover what happens next.
I recommend this book to sci-fi fans and lovers. It contains details, topics, and terms that would greatly interest them. I’m rating the book five out of five stars because I disliked nothing about it, and it was well-written and exceptionally well-edited.
