Balaclava is a book by M.G. Field. Dan Middleton came home and met the lifeless body of his wife, Sylvie, on the floor. Further investigation shows she was murdered. Dan was deeply affected by the loss of his wife and, at the same time, worried about his young daughter. He was interrogated and marked as a suspect. He was acquitted and released based on the lack of substantial evidence. He changed his identity and moved to another city where his real identity is unknown. However, he encountered a blackmailer who presumably knew about his past life. He, therefore, decided to take matters into his own hands by digging deeper. What were his final findings? Who murdered Sylvie? Who was the blackmailer? Find out from the book.

Balaclava is an interesting and captivating novel. I enjoyed every bit of the book. By carefully developing the book's plot, the author brings out a wonderful piece of literary work. I like that the author didn’t use too many characters, and each character is well-developed. Every action in the book is vividly described and are chronologically arranged. This makes the book relatable and easy to understand.

The only fault I was able to identify from the book was the ending. The book fails to clarify how Dan was able to navigate his way out of the legal repercussions of the false identity he adopted. There was also no information about Kateryna and how she ended up.

Overall, the book is great. I could not find any errors while reading, which means the book was well-edited. The twists and turns in the book create a good suspense that can make readers deeply absorbed in the book. The simplicity and clarity of the book make it easy to read, follow, and understand the storyline. Therefore, I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The fault mentioned above is minor, and thus not enough to deduct a star.

I would recommend this book to readers who love reading action and crime thrillers.
