Review of A Hush at Midnight
Laura had always been close to Hattie, but when she visited her one day, she noticed something wasn’t right with her caregiver, Nicole. After leaving, Laura couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling and returned to find something terrible had happened to Hattie. Laura set out to find the truth, but things grew darker when she became a suspect. With her father and a few trusted allies, she navigated secrets and betrayals. Laura discovers with every clue she finds that everything seems more complex than she had thought, and her connection to Hattie’s story is about to take an unexpected turn.
Marlene M. Bell's novel A Hush at Midnight is quite interesting. The book is an interesting mystery that grabs you right from the start. Bell's descriptive and fascinating writing helps readers envision the places and experience the emotions of the characters. Every character is well-developed and contains individual features that heighten the mystery of the narrative. The realistic and authentic communication among the characters encourages you to enter their world. The plot unfolds at a good pace, combining suspense with scenes, allowing you to know the characters more personally.
Zane, Laura's dad, is supportive, protective, and quick on his feet. He stays by Laura's side during her investigation, helping her out both emotionally and practically. His positive attitude helps keep Laura steady when things get stressful. Zane is also very observant; he catches on to things that others might miss. When it comes to taking action, like making sure a lawyer is there during questioning, he shows that he knows what he's doing. Zane is a strong and dependable person in Laura's life.
The book is exceptionally well-edited. The themes of trust, betrayal, and the complexity of relationships are evident throughout the work. As Laura navigates her concerns about those around her, readers are pushed to consider how well we know the people in our lives. The novel examines the theme that looks can be deceiving, prompting readers to question intentions and hidden goals.
There is nothing I didn’t like about the book. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars since I appreciated the whole story. At times, I found myself growing frustrated, especially with some of the detectives' queries. The twists and surprises are beautifully done. Another character I love in the book is Brent. I admire how he sincerely cares for Laura. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery book and a storyline that keeps you hooked.
