Izzy Santos, a new police officer, wishes for a little more excitement as her assignment of the day is stopping a turtle that is eating an old woman's azaleas. Her wish is granted, however, when the lead detective is out sick, and she is called to investigate a young woman who has gone missing. Izzy, though lacking experience, is quite a creative thinker. She also has a distinct advantage; her aunt is a psychic. Will Izzy be able to solve the case? Follow along on the investigation by reading Dead Woman Walking by Diana Corbitt.

Izzy was a relatable and realistic character. I can relate to her frustrations at work. Being stuck doing basic tasks can be disheartening when you feel as though you are capable of more. On the inverse, being assigned such a difficult case at first was perhaps a little out of her comfort zone. She had to get past any rookie mistakes quickly if she wanted to solve the case. I enjoyed watching her grow throughout the novel. I also thought that the case unfolded in unexpected, but realistic, ways. While I had an inkling of the culprit before the reveal, I still enjoyed seeing Izzy's case develop and learning if my hunch was correct.

The book could use additional proofreading. I spotted more than ten errors. While most were not too distracting, there were a few more significant errors. For example, Corbitt used the wrong character name at one point, which was a little confusing. There were also several missing quotation marks, so the end of the dialogue was often unclear. However, I could always figure out when the narration had restarted or another character had begun speaking. The editing mistakes were the only part of the book that I disliked.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The one-star deduction is due to the number of errors I noticed. With additional proofreading, this could be a five-star book. I thought the mystery unfolded in a satisfying manner, and I struggled to put it down once I started! The supernatural elements added a nice twist to the traditional crime-solving novel. If you enjoy these two genres, look no further than Dead Woman Walking.

Her creativity and her aunt's psychic abilities add a unique twist to the story, making me curious to see how it all unfolds.
