Living in countries that are targeted by terrorists can be unbearable and fearsome. Terrorism can be religiously, politically, or otherwise related. The Date Farm by Jack Winnick tells the story of an attack on Jews and another on America by Sheikh Abidin and his followers as they steal very strong metal for making war aircraft. This metal is rare and not widely known. As a matter of fact, not many people in power in the US knew of its existence and location. This attack led to the coming in of Uri Levin and Lara Edmond, who were just newlyweds, to join in the counterattack of this Farsi operation.

Lara and Uri worked on the date farm as undercover agents to find out more about what the terrorists were planning. On the farm, they worked as one of the farm laborers. So one day, Uri was assigned to go and check out some of the trees that seemed to be dying. On getting there, he discovered that the irrigation system supplying water to the trees was faulty. So he repaired it. When he was about to leave, he noticed something about the trees. He would not have been able to notice this if the trees were green and thriving. They were cables running into spikes into the sky.

With real-life stories, news, and experiences surrounding us, the writer brought to light a lot of lessons about the day-to-day lives of those who fought against insurgencies and terrorists. In this story of Uri and Lara, their bravery and selflessness were so awesome. They did their best to fight Sheikh Abidin, who was well-known for his numerous attacks. Lara, on her own part, though being a woman, didn't allow her emotions and disadvantages to cloud her sense of duty. Sheikh Abidin, though a terrorist, impressed me with his ingenious plans.

I was thrilled that Lara and Uri worked together on the date farm. Their intelligence combined produced a number of successes. The beginning was sad, but that's what terrorists are out to do. I liked how descriptive some of the scenes were, and I liked how the story was wrapped up nicely. Actually, there's nothing to dislike in this book. Hence, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I found the story thrilling, the suspense captivating, and some of the scenes beautifully described. I recommend this book to soldiers, people who are always out and ready to fight insurgencies and terrorist groups for the safety of their country or the nation's peace.
