The Attunist, Russell Reed, has a special ability that allows him to kill people by controlling the wavelength of energy produced within the human brain. Russel can kill people and animals by intently looking at them. Even though he uses his special ability to weed out the bad people in society and help the needy, he is always a wanted man. While being pursued by law enforcers, he fled the U.S. and returned after many years, seeking to start life afresh on a clean slate. With the help of his former FBI girlfriend, Carla, he is trying to get immunity from the FBI that frees him from sins he committed in the past. He was hoping to get into the witness protection program if he helped the FBI to arrest a top criminal. Read to find out why he is always wanted and if he finally obtained immunity.

At some point, the Attunist killed Robinmahood and occupied his home. There was no mention anywhere that the kingpin’s friends or relatives ever came to visit someday and discovered their relative's home had been taken. Unless the drug lord does not allow visitors, which was never mentioned, I feel the author should have addressed the transfer of ownership question. This and the many death scenes are my drawbacks to this book.

The most interesting and suspenseful moment for me was when Russell arrived at the Bermuda Triangle, and the ocean waves damaged his boat, with millions of dollars in his briefcase lost as he was struggling for survival. I love the way the author painstakingly described events here; they were real, and I could relate to them.

This crime thriller has many suspenseful and interesting scenes, and I like the fact that this book has closure and the editing was excellently done. I felt fulfilled after turning the last page. I learned that even though it takes time, there is a reward for good deeds. I recommend “The Attunist” by Gary B. Haley to lovers of crime thrillers, and the aforementioned drawbacks do not deter me from giving it a rating of less than five out of five stars. Finally, note that this book is the third and final in the Attune Trilogy.
