Howl of the Banshee: A Lou Gault Thriller by award-winning Dave McKeon is a brilliant blend of action thriller and crime mystery with a light sprinkle of paranormal and romance. Lou Gault lives with the love of his life, Kate O’Grady, in New Brunswick, Canada, where Lou runs the remote sportsmen's resort Harve de Poisson he inherited from his father. Lou and Kate are planning their wedding trip to Ireland and a tour in Europe. With Lou tied up with off-season renovation chores at the resort, Kate leaves Lou to join her in a few days’ time and sets off for Ireland on her own. But Kate never arrives in Ireland. When Lou learns about Kate’s disappearance, he instantly sets off on her rescue mission. But will Lou rescue Kate?

Howl of the Banshee is the third installment of Dave McKeon’s Lou Gault Thriller Series. It was my first meet-and-greet with the series, and it read perfectly standalone. I read the whole novel in one sitting and loved every aspect of it. As a fan of thrillers and crime fiction, I enjoyed the fast-moving chase spanning Canada, Ireland, and even the Channel Islands. I also liked the sprinkles of humor and romance. As a fantasy fan, I enjoyed the legends about the banshee and witch’s chair. As a lawyer, I thoroughly enjoyed the ingenious, quirky trust of Chateau Bella Luna. But most of all, I liked the pervasive morale of Lou’s perilous quest, as it offered a perfect example of how important it is to always set our priorities right and the heavy price of failure to do so.

I disliked nothing in this fast-moving and hugely entertaining story, so I happily rate it five out of five stars.

I highly recommend this novel to adult fans of light-pitched action thrillers. Profane language, adult themes, and violence make this story inappropriate for junior and sensitive readers.
