Review of Knight's Tour
Earl James’ Knight’s Tour features the professional conman, Morrow, and his team as they work on a massive con job. Morrow has chosen Carter Hanley as his mark. Hanley was a ruthless business executive who broke apart companies, causing over four hundred thousand people to lose their jobs. Morrow knew that Hanley was a collector of Ming Dynasty artifacts. Conning Hanley into paying a million dollars for a fake artifact, Morrow felt justified by causing Hanley to lose something important to him.
Four weeks later, Morrow had a new job. Madison Schnell called Garret Hobart, Morrow’s alias, to help Langley Oil. Madison wanted Garret to find four missing men who had stolen twenty-six million dollars. They had been sent to Mexico and disappeared ten days ago. Morrow set up his team to watch the wives of the embezzlers. Seven days later, Morrow was frustrated with the lack of progress in the case. He was leaving a bar and calling for a ride when a van pulled up and three men in black knocked him out. He woke up bound to a chair. It didn’t take Morrow long to realize he knew the identities of his kidnappers.
Knight’s Tour is the second book in a series featuring Morrow. I enjoyed the first book and found that this novel was even better than the first. Morrow is a con man who employs various people to perform different jobs to pull off his cons. His team would follow his directions without hesitation. Their respect for Morrow was shown in how much they trusted him to plan every part of a job for the best results. However, the stakes are higher for everyone in the novel.
The novel is divided into three parts, each focusing on a distinct stage of Morrow’s plans. The unpredictable plot twists were captivating. I never put Knight’s Tour down. The character development was exceptional. Every scene, depicted in vivid detail, made it easy to envision every moment. The supporting characters have distinct personalities and add depth to the story. For instance, Nate was Morrow’s best friend. He was the only team member that Morrow could talk to when he had doubts about his plans. I found nothing to dislike about Knight’s Tour. I am rating this intriguing story five out of five stars.
Readers who appreciate fast-paced suspense novels featuring a con man grappling with moral dilemmas will find Knight’s Tour captivating. There are some instances of profanity and scenes of violence that may offend some people. The action and dialogue are easy for young adult readers to follow.
