Review of The Old Corsair
The Old Corsair by Michael DeStefano is a book in the C/T/M/H genre. The book follows Lieutenant Terrie Murphy as she starts her work at a new station. She was assigned to a construction site, tasked with procuring whatever important lies underneath. Terrie expected to find remnants of an old office with important documents, but instead, she found the skeleton of an old ship. A ship that would lead her to uncover the mystery of the Old Corsair.
Terrie also had another problem that she had been carrying. Memories of her sister's murder kept haunting her in the form of a nightmare. In order to put an end to the nightmare tormenting her, Terrie has to do something she has never done in all of her career: build a connection with her coworker. Would Terrie succeed in finding her sister’s murderer? And how could the mystery of the Old Corsair help her do just that?
What I liked most about this book were the characters. I have to be honest and say that I found Terrie to be physically attractive based on the way the author described her. Granted, some of her attitude may need some polishing at first, but the thought of following her story is enough to keep me going. The story itself was very intriguing. The way the book opens with an incident in 1785 made me think about how it would all be connected with the overall story. Tunney was, without doubt, a very interesting character.
There are very graphic descriptions in this book. I didn’t mind books with graphic descriptions before, but this book really gets to me. The way the author described the incident was very vivid, making me imagine why Terrie was suffering because of it. It may not be suitable for everyone, but personally, I don’t really mind. That is why I have nothing to dislike about this book.
I did not find any errors or typos when I was reading the book. So, I can say that this book is exceptionally edited. I gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book has everything to be a good mystery and thrilling book. It had good characters, a good story, and a dash of ghosts.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy good mystery books. Readers who enjoy books about ships would also enjoy this book. The details it provided about a ship were very technical; it could trouble some readers who did not understand it. Also, I recommend the book to mature young adults because of the graphic descriptions it has within the book.
