Mairead's sister is dead, a serial killer is on the loose, and she is in the middle of it all. Delia was a true crime writer, and Mairead, her sister, helped her with writing and research. Now that Delia is dead, the circumstances of which are less than clear, Mairead has the chance to finish her book on the Mailman. This serial killer and rapist is supposedly dead. However, rumors are circulating that the Postman, a copycat killer, is actually the original Mailman. It is suspected that the wrong man was killed by the cops. Evidence is being collected and might point to Mairead's husband. Nothing in Mairead's life adds up entirely. Who is the killer? Why does it seem like Delia's husband is treating Mairead like a replacement for Delia? Read The Last Thing I Ever Wanted by K. D. Burrows to find out!

This book is a wild ride from start to finish. I enjoyed the different layers of seeing Mairead work to finish her sister's book, the suspicions that Mateo was the Postman, and the alarming nature of Delia's death. Each of the different plot lines complemented each other and made each moment of the book exciting. It was also not hard to keep track of everything that was going on. Burrows took the time to fully develop each plot point.

The book does contain several errors throughout. Many of them involve missing quotation marks or issues with dialogue formatting. While it was not difficult to understand what was meant, they were distracting.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am taking off one star due to the number of errors I encounter while reading. With additional proofreading, The Last Thing I Ever Wanted could be a five-star book. If you enjoy crime novels that feature serial killers, then this would be a great option. If you are sensitive to violence, mentions of rape, or strong language, however, then I suggest you look elsewhere. Otherwise, give The Last Thing I Ever Wanted a try!

Given her sister's mysterious murder, Delia's and her own husband's strange conduct, and the likely serial killer who is pursuing her, Mairead has to leave the hot soup as soon as possible. Aside from the numerous mistakes, this sounds like a really captivating read. Thank you for your great review!

As soon as possible, Mairead must flee the hot soup because of her sister's unexplained death, Delia's and her own husband's odd behavior, and the probable serial killer who is after her. Despite the many errors, this seems like an extremely interesting book. I appreciate your excellent review.

The review does a good job of highlighting the work’s strengths, such as the plot development and the way the different elements of the story intertwine. The praise for the author, who fully develops each plot point, is valid and shows that the reviewer recognized the complexity of the narrative.

However, the criticism regarding formatting and punctuation errors could be more detailed. The reviewer mentions that these errors “do not hinder understanding but are distracting,” which is a valid observation. Still, without concrete examples, the critique loses some of its impact. Including an example of such an error would help readers better understand how it affects the reading experience.

Many thing, including a serial killer, about this book are appealing to me. The high number of errors, though, is not one of them. Thanks!

Is the "Mailman" really the "Postman?" How scary it must be for the protagonist to find out that it might be her husband. I hope the author takes your critique into account and lifts this book up to 5-star status.

The book appears to have the making of a five star novel, suspense ,drama .however I think in my opinion the author should make the corrections and turn this book into the five star it deserves.

A thriller about a serial killer is always potentially interesting for me and this one seems well-constructed with different plot lines that get combined to form a consistent storyline. I hope the author does proper proofreading to make it excellent. Thank you for your great review!

The mix of true crime, a personal mystery, and the eerie possibility of a copycat (or the original killer still being out there) sounds like an intense read. I like when a book keeps multiple plot threads balanced without becoming overwhelming, and it sounds like this one does that well. The formatting errors might be a little distracting, but if the story is gripping enough, I could probably overlook them. I’d consider picking this up, especially if I was in the mood for a dark, suspenseful thriller.
