[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Last Thing I Ever Wanted" by K.D. Burrows.]
Mairead's sister is dead, a serial killer is on the loose, and she is in the middle of it all. Delia was a true crime writer, and Mairead, her sister, helped her with writing and research. Now that Delia is dead, the circumstances of which are less than clear, Mairead has the chance to finish her book on the Mailman. This serial killer and rapist is supposedly dead. However, rumors are circulating that the Postman, a copycat killer, is actually the original Mailman. It is suspected that the wrong man was killed by the cops. Evidence is being collected and might point to Mairead's husband. Nothing in Mairead's life adds up entirely. Who is the killer? Why does it seem like Delia's husband is treating Mairead like a replacement for Delia? Read The Last Thing I Ever Wanted by K. D. Burrows to find out!
This book is a wild ride from start to finish. I enjoyed the different layers of seeing Mairead work to finish her sister's book, the suspicions that Mateo was the Postman, and the alarming nature of Delia's death. Each of the different plot lines complemented each other and made each moment of the book exciting. It was also not hard to keep track of everything that was going on. Burrows took the time to fully develop each plot point.
The book does contain several errors throughout. Many of them involve missing quotation marks or issues with dialogue formatting. While it was not difficult to understand what was meant, they were distracting.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am taking off one star due to the number of errors I encounter while reading. With additional proofreading, The Last Thing I Ever Wanted could be a five-star book. If you enjoy crime novels that feature serial killers, then this would be a great option. If you are sensitive to violence, mentions of rape, or strong language, however, then I suggest you look elsewhere. Otherwise, give The Last Thing I Ever Wanted a try!
