Johnna Samuels, a police officer and the protagonist of the story, receives a call from an unknown number with information about her kids, Lonnie and AJ. Being a cop who has delivered bad news to parents in the past, she is immediately terrified, but nothing prepares her to receive the news that her children were dead from the killer himself. As if that was not enough, her husband, Tony, receives the news and suffers a cardiac arrest and dies.

Johnna is distraught with grief and is uncertain how she would cope and bear this loss. She decides to retreat to their family cabin, where she would stay in solitude until she figured her next move. The serial killer, who now calls himself the Iceman, sends her a package meant to taunt her further; he sends her a video of children's last moments and some of the terrible sexual acts he subjected them to before he murdered them. This makes her vow to avenge her children, and she decides to go hunting for the Iceman. She employs the help of Mike, her best friend and profiler, to help understand the killer more. Will she get her revenge? Or will she lose herself in the process?

On encountering this book and after going through its description, I knew I just had to read it, and I'm happy I did because its plot exceeded my expectations. The author introduces us to Johnna, the protagonist, a woman whom fate dealt unlucky cards; who is out to get revenge to sate the pain and rage within her. The book's plot is excellently narrated with just enough details to allow the reader to imagine the features of the characters and the scenes described as they progress. It is also well-structured and accompanied by a blend of well-developed characters with motives that bring unexpected surprises for the audience at every turn. Johnna's course of action is relatable and describes the natural response of the human spirit to trauma; themes like revenge and the importance of love and family can be highlighted.

I had no dislikes at all for this book; the pacing was incredible, the plot was well structured, and the diction was simple enough to attract a larger audience. This is a book that elicited some emotions from me, both happy and sad, and I also learnt a few things from its pages. I must commend the editors for an amazing job, as I did not encounter any errors while I read. Please Look Away by Jaylynn Wylie receives 5 out of 5 stars due to its overwhelmingly positive qualities. I recommend this book to audiences who enjoy books on fiction, crime thrillers, and detective stories.

That sounds like an emotionally intense and gripping story. The depth of Johnna’s grief and her pursuit of justice seem incredibly powerful. While the subject matter is definitely dark, it seems like a well-written and thought-provoking read. I might give it a try when I’m ready for something heavy and immersive.
