“Precision” by D.C. Scott is very fascinating and charming book. Magruder is a retired first grade detective from the Houston Police Department. After retirement he took a job at Texas Department of Criminal as an additional income to his pension. He soon gets bored and decides to distract himself with an unsolved cold case file of a dead couple termed as murder-suicide by the local district attorney. The evidence presented doesn’t sit right with Magruder and he decides to outsource help from anyone who might know anything. A young man in his early twenties, who doesn’t believe it was a murder-suicide decides to help Mr Magruder. He begins the story which starts about 25 years ago. Will the story from the young man be of use to the detective? Will Mr Magruder use his first grade detective skills to solve this case?
This is a great relaxation book as it allows you to momentarily immerse yourself in a different world. It has clear depiction of the characters, their personal and work life, the relationships between the characters and the characters background. It was a heartwarming journey following the life of John Riley. I especially enjoyed how he explored love and marriage in a realistic way and maintaining genuine feelings. How he handled joys in relationships and maintaining his ground while making serious decisions concerning long-life commitments.
The portrayal of his friendships with Denny, Lenny and Myron felt authentic. I did love that the book depicted career development and growth of most of its character which was motivating and and empowering. The theme of family life tied everything together beautifully adding emotional depth and grounding the story in relatable values. The plot at the end catches one guard as it transition from a lovingness to a crime theme. It does make the read worth it.
Overall this book was not only relaxing but also uplifting and full of love. It’s a perfect read for anyone navigating life’s many layers with purpose and heart. I have nothing negative to add about this book. The kindle version was well edited. It also gives closure to each characters even the minor ones. Therefore I give it a 4/4.
