Review of The Girl with the Red Nails
The Girl with the Red Nails by G. Spencer Myers is an interesting ecological thriller. Dr. Derk Bryan embarks on a quest to expose the greed fueling the plastic manufacturing industry. His journey intertwines with Estee Sparks. Estee is a woman in her mid-thirties who has suffered the loss of her son and a failed marriage. She tattoos her body with extinct animals and seeks vengeance against the manufacturing industry with her fellow law school classmates.
Estee's mission leads her to enlist Dr. Bryan's help in investigating the death of a pregnant Ricei Whale. Dr. Bryan becomes infatuated with Dr. Susan Carlton, an astronaut training for the first mission to Mars. They discover a radio station being run by an ex-con manipulated by fossil fuel interests and led by billionaire Pendleton Danswirth III. Unravel the mystery of The Girl with the Red Nails, when you read this riveting tale.
I really enjoyed the mystery involved in this novel. It is also evident that the author is conscious of the environmental challenges we face today as a society. I appreciated that after each chapter the author included an environmental fact and suggestion for the reader to assist with the damage that fossil fuels cause the Earth. However, I encountered numerous grammatical errors while reading and thus had to lower my rating. I rate this book three out of five stars. There were certain aspects of the book that I found confusing. The author was often switching between different characters, and I was left trying to piece everything together.
There is vulgar language, death, and sex mentioned throughout the book, so it would be best geared towards a mature audience. With that being mentioned, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in helping the environment, and those who enjoy thrillers or mysteries.
