Review of A Murder Foretold
"A Murder Foretold" by David T. Wolf is a captivating modern-day crime thriller. Main character Charlie Novak is a senior investigator for the American Insurance Crime Commission. His partner in life and crime, Owen Waite is a traveling salesman, and the two of them lead lives filled with deception. Over the years, they have perfected an evil scheme in which Charlie murders each of Owen's wives and makes each death look like an accident so that they can collect the insurance money. One day, Charlie gets a call from Owen as married Stewart Strock. His wife Vanessa has been unexpectedly killed by someone else, and they must make sure that Owen is in the clear.
I give "A Murder Foretold" four out of five stars. It never has a lull in action, and the character development is great. Told from both Charlie and Owen's points of view, the author paints intriguing pictures of the serial criminals. Charlie, a hardened war veteran, has a dark secret that only Owen knows. Owen is a charming movie star type who fools everyone but Charlie. Their feelings about women are like a maze with no easy way out. When Sydney Waters, an aspiring writer and Vanessa's best friend enters the story, the plot thickens. As Charlie is in San Mateo investigating the case, her affect on him is life-altering. Why is he so drawn to her and why is she so nice to him? Why is she so persistent about finishing her own crime novel given that her best friend has just been murdered? The twists and turns in "A Murder Foretold" are excellent, and the ending will throw readers for a loop. Certain passages that detail violence realistically won't appeal to readers who aren't drawn to horror. The parts that include romance and sex are realistic as well, and without cliches. There are a few editing mistakes in the book, and that is the only reason the rating is less than five stars.
"A Murder Foretold" will appeal to readers who love crime thrillers with plenty of drama and mystery.

Thank you! It's a great thriller.Kibet Hillary wrote: ↑16 Jun 2025, 14:22 The first paragraph already made me curious about the whole plot. The fact that someone new is now in the business makes it even more surprising. I am wondering about how Charlie and Owen manage to do this and still lead their lives. The review is captivating, @Leslie coccia.
